about
"Raven Called Crow was written during the pipeline protests and I believe the lyrics were channeled from the collective consciousness. It's a song that looks through the lens of endangered species to speak of those who have been unheard and repressed." ~Jade Bell
lyrics
Under a murder of shadows
A thunderbird stirs its echo
To call out within wars blood stain
Where did you go raven called crow
Whisky soaked feathers red war paint
Masks over ancestral pain
Breaking spirit of the beautiful
Festering wounds against the grain
Above the planets breathing soil
The grey wolf gets lost in turmoil
With human ignorance to blame
Who apologize with a smile
As lifes creation only taints
All that's created in its name
After a life that's so fragile
Blossoms within the devils flame
Can you feel extinction coming
Within the core of your bones
Feel the whiskey burn your throat
And within murdered shadow
Know that you're not alone
Can you feel extinction coming
Within the core of your bones
Feel the whiskey burn your throat
And within murdered shadow
Know that you're not alone
Know that you're not alone
Under a murder of shadows
A thunderbird stirs its echo
To call out within wars blood stain
Where did you go raven called crow
Whisky soaked feathers red war paint
Masks over ancestral pain
Breaking spirit of the beautiful
Festering wounds against the grain
Can you feel extinction coming
Within the core of your bones
Feel the whiskey burn your throat
And within murdered shadow
Know that you're not alone
Can you feel extinction coming
Within the core of your bones
Feel the whiskey burn your throat
And within murdered shadow
Know that you're not alone
Know that you're not alone

Jade wrote the lyrics, produced, and arranged Raven Called Crow. Richard Leon Gauthier wrote the melody and sings a passionate duet with Sarah Osborne (from west coast roots band Sarah Osborne and the Magic Buttons). Raven Called Crow is colored by smokey drums by Troy Gerow and upright bass by Ian Van Wyck with an overlay of filigreed pedal steel by Marc Jenkins; leader of Victoria community choir The Choir. Raven Called Crow was mixed and mastered by Andy Meyers (of the Toronto art punk pioneers The Scenics) at his Allowed Sound Studio.
